How to Calculate Points for Express Entry Program?

Express entry program is the most popular program in Canadian immigration to obtain a permanent residence visa. Now it is a point-based program where ITAs are given to the candidates who are able to obtain a certain amount of points that are set by Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) while doing an express draw that is held on a regular interval of the time period.

What is the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)?

Comprehensive Rankin System (CRS) is the system where candidate profiles are ranked in express pool based on the points that are awarded based on various eligibility factors. Higher ranked profiles are given an ITA to apply for a permanent residence visa to IRCC.

Now, in CRS candidates are ranked based under the following components:

  • Core human capital factors
  • Accompanying spouse or common-law factors
  • Skill transferability factors
  • Other factors that are related to a provincial nomination, offer for arranged employment, study experience, siblings living in Canada and French language proficiency.

How points are awarded in CRS?

Canada Express Entry Point Calculator is mainly based on two factors:

How CRS works in express entry program?

As we know express entry is a point-based program. Those points are awarded based on eligibility criteria that are submitted at the time of creation of express profile. One the points are awarded based on those points, candidate’s profile is ranked in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Higher ranked profile in CRS is then given an invitation to apply (ITA) so that they can apply for permanent residence to the Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

CRS helps to sort out the express profiles and help to select the skilled immigrants only for permanent residence. This way eligible employer can also use express pool to select the eligible immigrants for job profiles they are best suited for.
