It was in honor of the founder king called as Suraj Sen. Suraj Sen was the grandfather of Lord Krishna. This is how Bateshwar shares some kind of connection with Lord Krishna also.

The Son of the Dhams (The Pilgrimage Sites)

The ‘Char Dhams’ are four major pilgrimage sites in India. If Bateshwar is called as the son of the dhams, it means that it is also of high importance. The Char Dhams are Badrinath in the North, Dwarka in the West, Rameshwaram in the South and Jagannath Puri in the East.

Connection of Bateshwar with Tirthankar

Bateshwar is also believed to be the birthplace of one of the Jain Tirthankars. It is said that the 22nd Jain Tirthankar called as Nemichand took birth over here. This is how it is of great significance for the followers of Jain Community also.

A Pilgrimage Site for the Jain 

It is a pilgrimage site for the people following the Jainism also. Digambar and shwetambar are the two sects of Jainism. According to both of them, Bateshwar is a pilgrimage site. There are some temples dedicated to the Tirthankar here, which are located at Shorapur which is 3 km away from this place.
